1st XV suffer narrow defeat at Old Amplefordians. 2nd XV beaten at home by Chipstead. Colts lose at Tring.

The 1st XV travelled to Old Amplefordians on Saturday for their final league fixture in Surrey 1 this season. Its fair to say the Antlers will be disappointed with the way the second half of the league season has panned out given our position in the table at Christmas, but this was a much better performance than those of previous weeks. Teddington's dominant scrum, which was such a potent weapon in the first half of the season, was back to its best and if it wasn’t for our unfortunate obligation to revert to uncontested scrums for the final 10 minutes, the result may have been different. A brace of try tries from Stuart RIDLER, a try from Kerry BOYD and a penalty from Jacob WILLIAMS wasn’t quite enough to get the win , but a losing bonus point was secured. Final Score Old Amplefordians 22 Teddington 18

Congratulations to Kingston RFC for finishing top of Surrey 1. We wait and see where the RFU league restructuring leaves us next season, but the focus next term will be on maintaining consistency throughout the season. We beat the league winners in a close encounter before Christmas, so there is no reason why we can’t be successful at this level.

The 2nd XV hosted runaway Merit Table toppers Chipstead at Bushy Park on Saturday. Chipstead have swept all before them this season and unfortunately that was the case again on Saturday where they ran out 52-0 winners. However this was not before Teddington made them work hard for their victory. The good news is, the Merit tables work on an end of season play off system, and by finishing fourth, the 2nds progress to the knock out games. The bad news is we travel to Chipstead for the semi final. We’ll be there though, with supporters in tow, looking for an upset and maybe a play off final to finish the season in April.

On Sunday, the Colts travelled to Tring for their Herts/Middlesex 2 league fixture, but went down 24-5. The Colts are on the road again next week, when they visit Old Rutlishians.
