The Fat Stags' season got off to a disappointing start with a loss to perennial opponents Grasshoppers. Up against an abrasive opposition pack and finding themselves on the wrong side of the referee's interpretation of the breakdown, the Stags struggled to retain enough ball to build points scoring momentum.
Despite this it was an enjoyable game that featured one outstanding team try where the ball went through six pairs of hands before being dotted down and a penalty try scored from a well crafted maul that was a feature of the evening's performance. Had a previous try from an earlier maul not been chalked off then the result may have been different, but it was not to be.
The match was notable for the Fat Stags debuts of U12 parents Jaroslav Wolanski and Martin Heverin, both of whom had strong games.
