With a new coaching setup this season and a raft of new players, this was always likely to be a tough first outing given how close results have been between the two sides in recent years.

But Teddington raced out of the blocks, showing all of the enthusiasm of their excellent preseason with Laura Parry kicking off the scoring early in the game with a  try and a conversion.

Although Wimbledon caused problems up front in the opening quarter, particularly with their strong scrum, Teddington were capitalising on their errors with Parry, Jane Wescott, Aimee Miller and Olivia Marshall all showing great offloading skills and intent to move the ball wide.

Growing into the game, Nat Haidari crashed over after a fine period of play and Miller was over herself after an excellent wide set-piece move. It was Haidari and Miller again who grabbed further scores before the half which ended 31-0 to Teddington.

Miller was a constant thorn in Wimbledon's side with her sniping breaks while Emma Davis showed her powerful defence on numerous occasions in the game with Penny Carr and Laura Templeman carrying hard throughout.

The game then threatened to turn the way of the opposition when Wimbledon grew into the second half and grabbed a try back and with Teddington conceding a raft of penalties, the referee showed a yellow card to two Antlers in quick succession.

Down to 13 players, Teddington then leaked two tries, with simple hands doing the damage as the hosts ran out of numbers out wide, and back to 15 Wimbledon scored again in the corner as they threatened to pull off a strong comeback.

Teddington regathered their composure and pushed themselves back up the field and a brilliant try from Wescott and another from Miller - who was outstanding throughout - meant there was no way back and Antlers could breathe easy.

Teddington are back in action next weekend against newcomers to the league Ellingham and Ringwood.
