League Season under way with an entertaining draw

Both teams show attacking promise and defensive resilience in this spirited encounter at Bushy Park

The report of this keenly fought and entertaining encounter, the first ever between these two clubs can be boiled down to this;

If Trojans had an accurate goal kicker they would have more than likely won the game.

If Teddington had played with a bit more composure and tactical nowse they would have more than likely won the game.

On more than a handful of occasions’ Trojans pressure resulted in Teddington indiscretion and kickable penalties. But time and time again those penalties were missed and Teddington let off the hook. In fact every single Trojans shot at the sticks during the game was missed, one from bang in front of the barn door.

Both teams played with tremendous heart and saw plenty of the ball, but for Teddington too much of it deep in their own half. The home team had a habit of battering away before running out of ideas and turning the ball over. It took a moment of individual skill from Teddington Captain Henry Kirchner to unlock the resolute Trojans defence and open the scores with a fine solo effort, which was converted by Alex Newberry. Trojans responded with a try in kind after some steely defence and a turnover ball they ran blind to find no Teddington defenders at home. A simple offload and Trojans were back in it. The conversion was missed. So 7-5 at half time.

The second half was another see-saw of entertainment but very little to trouble the scoreboard. A Teddington penaly from Newberry and a solid try from Trojans meant that the scores remained locked at 10-10 as the final whistle blew.

There are plenty of positives for both teams and with a tweak here and there and some hard work on the training paddock both should be competitive in this tough league.

The Cloche Man of The Match was No8 Fergus FARRELL who was back to his destructive best, making countless charges into the heart of the Trojans defence and putting in hit after hit on defensive duties. New recruits Josh Stevens (12) and Nigel Johnston (14)both had impressive league debuts.

A mention must also go to prop/hooker Martin DONNELLY who after 7 years at the club finally won his 100th 1st XV Cap.

The short trip to London Cornish next week will certainly please the members of Crinkly Corner who always look forward to some of that well known Cornish hospitality in the Telegraph Pub before and after the game.
