Due to the ongoing dry weather our opening league game last weekend was postponed, so a hastily arranged pre-season friendly against Weybridge Vandals was organised on Friday evening on the AGP under the lights at Grasshoppers RFC. We were also lucky enough to have international referee Karl DICKSON, who volunteered his services to officiate the game at short notice.
This was always going to be a good test for the Antlers with the opposition competing in the league above us this season, and so it proved as the Vandals raced into a 26-0 lead at the break. Not to be rolled over, Teddington hit back in the second half with tries from Jack MILLER, Adam PRICE and Harry SMITH, before eventually going down 40-19.
Plenty of good performances across the team, especially some of the new guys, which is encouraging. Weybridge Vandals are a step ahead of us at the moment, but the game gave us a good idea of where we need to get to. Overall a very useful run out before we head into the league program, which fingers crossed will kick off at home this Saturday against Purley John Fisher RFC.
