It was Teddingtons turn to host the traditional annual U23 game against Twickenham RFC on Sunday 28th December. The game is a memorial to a former Teddington player, Chris Mapletoft who sadly passed away at a young age, but it is also an opportunity to remember other players and members of both clubs who we have lost over recent years.
The game is a fantastic way of staying connected with young players as they transition from junior to senior rugby, and its also a great social occasion where supporters from both sides can get together and share a Xmas drink or two.
Twickenham ran out deserved winners on the day. They were the more cohesive and organised side but Teddington never stopped trying to play rugby and scored some lovely trys of their own to entertain the large crowd. Twickenham have now won the last 3 festive fixtures, so Teddington will need to work hard to reclaim the trophy when they visit Parkfields next year.
There will be a chance for Teddington U23s to get back to winning ways before that though when they play London Welsh on Friday evening (2nd Jan) at Chiswick RFC.
Final Score Teddington U23 15 TwickenhamU23 45.
