Teddington Vets affectionately known as the Fat Stags, embarked on their early season tour to Swansea last weekend, where they took on a fine Vets team from Gowerton RFC. These early season tours are now starting to become a bit of a tradition with similar trips to Devon and Dorset in recent years. This year Fat Stags regular Steve JONES lined up the fixture with his old club back in West Wales, and thanks to some tireless organising by Nick SMART and Paddy TOMLINSON a tour party of 24 seasoned rugby players made the trip down for a weekend full of plenty of laughs and some glorious rugby. Come Saturday afternoon, and despite the late night beforehand, the Fat Stags put in a mightily impressive performance against their hosts. Inevitably, Gowerton’s larger squad and more sober approach to the game began to tell and they ran out deserved winners, by 6 trys to 2. A wonderful evening ensued with our hosts before the squad relocated to the bars of Swansea for a much-earned night cap. Many thanks to Gowerton for their generous hospitality, and we hope we can welcome you to Bushy Park in the near future.
