Teddington dispatch Oxford Harlequins to end losing streak

The feel-good factor returned to Bushy Park on Saturday with the club holding its annual Vice Presidents lunch before the 1st XV entertained Oxford Harlequins 2nd team. The weather for once was dry and bright, and maybe just a hint that we’ve seen the back end of the never-ending rain and spring is just around the corner. Teddington came into this, on a 3-match losing streak, and having not recorded a win since before Xmas. Oxford are propping up the table, and with a few key Antlers personnel returning to the fray, this looked the perfect opportunity to stop the rot. The game didn’t start that way though with Oxford taking the lead on 20 minutes with a smartly taken try. The Antlers didn’t panic though, and they hit back a few minutes later through Olly HOLLAND, before adding 3 more trys courtesy of Tom WILLIAMS, Will MAVIN and Thomas HAWKE. Bob BEEVERS converted them all to give Teddington a healthy advantage, but Oxford had the final say of the half with a score that pulled it back to 28-12 at the break. Three trys for the hosts after the break effectively ended the encounter, with Alfie RANSOM and Tom BOYNTON getting on the scoresheet before MAVIN added his second. Oxford to their credit never threw in the towel and scored 5 minutes before the end as they pursued a try bonus point. It was Teddington who had the final say though as George BRADFORD muscled over at the death to cap off a solid performance from the squad. A welcome win for Teddington who now have a week off before making the short trip to local rivals Grasshoppers on the 28th February. Final Score Teddington RFC 52 Oxford Harlequins 2s 17. Man of the Match Chad BUCHNER.
