Start of Season Season Update: Pitches Still Recovering — Please Bear With Us

James Olsen

A message for our members

Good news first — the weather has finally turned, and after weeks of dry, drought-like conditions we're now seeing some much-needed rain falling in Teddington.

So why the continued delay?

Pitches don't recover overnight. Ground that's been baked hard all summer takes time to soften, and right now ours — like most in the area — are still too firm underfoot for safe contact rugby. We know everyone's keen to get moving, and we appreciate your patience while nature does its work but its takes time therefore the club is looking at additional options to help the pitches recover as quickly as possible. We are still looking out for further updates from the RFU and/or the County boards on this subject as well and will keep you posted.

What this means for us

Contact training remains restricted. Until pitches are properly assessed as safe, contact work can only take place on the crash mats at Bushy Park and Udney Park.
We're maximising all available space. Coaches are making full use of every playable area — to keep sessions varied, active and fun whilst we wait for the grass pitches to come round.
Schedules will continue to move around. Please continue to bear with us on timings for fixtures and training as we monitor conditions week to week.

What we're asking of you

Players: keep training hard — fitness, handling and skills work all count, even without full contact.
Parents: thanks for your continued patience — pitch and player safety comes first.
Coaches: keep assessing ground conditions before every session and adapting as needed.

Don't forget — Minis Start of Season Social BBQ, this Sunday!
A great chance to catch up off the pitch — More details to follow from your team managers.

We'll keep you posted as conditions improve further. Thanks as always for your support.
