Social Rugby at its best in Bushy Park

Social Rugby at its best in Bushy Park

Simon Davis27 Nov 2023 - 15:56

3rds fall agonisingly short against Thamesians.

There was no rugby last weekend for the 1st or 2nd XV’s as the league programs took a rest week, so all focus turned to the 3rd XV who hosted close neighbours, Thamesians 2nd XV at Bushy Park. Teddington 3’s are currently in the midst of a mini revival, with this being the third Saturday on the bounce that they have fielded a side, which is a fantastic effort and a great reflection on the squad and their skipper Paddy TOMLINSON. The 3rds philosophy is based firmly on social and inclusive rugby. Whether you are new to the game, returning after many years away, or an experienced player who is looking for some fun rugby then you’ll be welcomed into the fold with open arms. Saturdays squad consisted of all the above, as the guys took to the field on a glorious late autumn afternoon. Thamesians came with a big squad, and it was fair to say the Antlers were giving a few years away to their visitors, but with age comes experience and Teddington made sure they used that to good effect. The sides were well matched throughout game, with each side scoring 3 trys, but it was Thamesians who went into the last part of the game leading by 2 points. However, as Robbie HARTE, Jono VENTER and Steve JONES pulled the strings in the closing moments it looked like the hosts might nick it. Sadly though, as the guys pressed and probed, the last move of the afternoon broke down yards from the oppositions line, the referee blew up and Thamesians were worthy winners. There were great performances all over the pitch and a few social beers were had off it after the game. Well done to Thamesians, a great game and we must visit you in the New Year for a rematch.
