Teddington Ladies were named the Rugby World magazine Team of the Month to cap off a fine season.

The award comes after huge amounts of hard work on and off the field this season. This year Teddington have focused hard on recruitment with more than 10 new players signing up for the squad. They have finished third in their league and reached their first ever National Cup Final, losing out to an excellent Romford side on the day, but learning plenty along the way and putting themselves in a strong position to challenge for both titles next season.

Off the field there has also been plenty of hard work. Efforts from Sarah Edwards and Heather Smith in particular have led to a strong partnership with St Mary’s University which has seen the ladies share facilities at the campus – a particular help during the poor weather this season. Smith also coached the St Mary’s side to a league title this season and it’s hoped there will be plenty of Simmies representation on the Teddington side in the coming years.

The girls youth section at the club is also starting to take off led by former senior players Ari Gaunt and Verity Williams. Teddington now have players at U13, U15 and U18 level with a great partnership with Battersea Ironsides meaning that there’s plenty of game-time for all of the girls, something that is often a problem at underage level for girls.

The ladies were also pleased to secure new sponsorship this season with The Rising Sun supplying excellent new kit and thanks is also due to Fergus Farrell for his efforts with Raging Bull for the ladies team.
There’s one league game to go as the ladies play against Aylesford Bulls at the end of April before taking a break before the summer of 7s kicks in. Full pre-season training will likely begin again in July.
