Teddington beat Grasshoppers in 02 Touch Rugby 5-4 with the last play of the Game!

On Monday 17th November, Teddington Touch Team visited local rivals Grasshoppers for a friendly game between Middlesex Rugby's two 02 Touch centres.

Teddington came prepared for a tough match, against a much younger and fitter Grasshopper team, and caught Grasshoppers off guard asserting their attacking strength (in the first two minutes in fact) with two quick tries. A strong defence, disciplined attack and regular use of substitutes saw Teddington race to a 3 tries to 1 half time lead.

In the second half, Grasshoppers had woken up and started to take the game a bit more seriously, in fear of being embarrassed with a white wash. Grasshoppers, through their younger players, mainly those under 17, had the speed and agility to score a couple of good tries out wide on the wing, equaling the score to four tries a piece.

The final part of the game saw both teams give it their all but is was Teddington, who used the same dynamic quick dummy half tactics to score the winning try. 5 - 4 to Teddington at the final whistle, with an incredible break away try by Steve Boynton, set up my his son!

Lewey Hook, Coach of the Grasshoppers Touch team said: "It was another successful evening of touch footy with speed and skill. In the end tactics won the day! We look forward to the triangular and playing some other clubs."
