Drawn in a pool containing London Welsh, Guildfordians, Chobham and Richmond, the lads were first up and got off to a flying start against London Welsh, leading 3-1 at half time with tries from Harry, Ben and Cillian. They held their form in the second half with two tries from Cosmo and one from Ben, resulting in a 6-3 first victory of the season. Ball retention was fantastic, with the Braves not turning over the ball once, and some great tagging forcing errors from the opposition.
Second up were a big and powerful Richmond side. Unfortunately a few handling errors saw the lads trailing 0-4 at half time. A much improved second half performance, with Cillian crossing for another try, resulted in a 1-6 defeat against what looked like the best team in the pool.
The third game was against another strong team in Chobham. Highlights of this game were a fantastic chase down the wing and try saving tag from Jake and a try from William. Chobham ran out 5-1 winners.
The final game against Guildfordians was a fantastic end to end battle, with great defence and support play from the Braves. The lads fought back from a 0-2 half time deficit and were very unlucky to end up on the wrong end of the 5-3 scoreline with two more tries from Cosmo and one from William.
This was a great debut performance from the Braves, showing particularly in the first and last matches that they are capable of some excellent rugby.
Well done Jake, Barney, Harry, Cillian, Cosmo, Luca, William, Finn, Ben and Mark and thanks to the parents, especially Luke, for all their help, support and sweets!
