Morgan took the ball down the sidelines and passed to Max, giving us our first try within 25 seconds of kick off! Oliver grabbed the ball, and after some excellent dodging and diving, ducking and weaving managed to score the next 3 tries! Tom and Jake in particular did some great tagging and defence work, but ultimately we lost 5-4.
Our second match against Chobham kicked off with Max, once again scoring the opening try. Oliver quickly followed with another 3 tries and some superb speedy running. Jake got the ball and dodged the opposition perfectly, with Tom running down the line to score another try. Fred saw an opening after a foul from Chobam and ran down the touchline to score a try, only to have it disallowed. He was robbed! Marcus and Fred did some good blocking to intimidate the opposition and we won the match comfortably 5 tries to 3.
In the last match of the first round, against Battersea saw the team really bond well, with Tom and Oliver scoring. Fred showed some excellent defending skills, with Tom holding the fort on the wing. Max seized an opening and grabbed the ball from Battersea, passing to Oliver. Oliver ran so fast he lost all of his team mates and had no-one to pass to when he was tagged. Keep up chaps! Jake did a few outstanding tagging manoeuvres and Oscar kept up the pace providing support to his team.
In the final, against Reeds, Oliver kicked off with a try, Tom defending well. Morgan got the next try, but sadly it was disallowed (he’d put his shirt over his tag belt!!), but redeemed himself with some good tagging around the try line. Tom was the next up to score, but HIS was disallowed too as he managed to run out of touch. Two more tries by Oliver, a try scoring machine today, some good tagging by Fred and lots of shouting and encouragement from the parents saw us looking comfortable for a win. Jake got a last minute try on a ball set up by Oscar and we managed to win ! Captain Jake takes home the BOWL this week and us parents can spend the rest of Sunday resting the vocals – it was so tense!!
