Despite the forecast for monsoon rain all day, we had a fine dry day for a very well-organised festival at London Irish as the traditional season-closer. The under 8’s took two strong teams in this keenly contested tournament. The B’s were very competitive in all their games, but frustratingly lost all four by a single try. As always, a few borderline decisions going the other way and the outcome could have been so different.
As for the A’s, it was a rollercoaster day, with an emphatic 9-2 win over Chipstead followed by a frustrating narrow defeat to Guildford and an equally frustrating draw (clutched from the jaws of victory!) against eventual tournament finalists London Irish. The boys then showed real spirit by coming back with a win against Chobham, to qualify for the Shield final, which they won against “old enemies” Ealing. The day ended with both teams happily taking off their tag belts for the last time, and looking forward to new challenges with the under 9’s next year…
