From the moment we all arrived the heavens opened and stayed that way throughout the day. This was undoubtedly a contributing factor to the hesitant start the team made, winning 1 from 3 of the pool matches which included our old friends Rosslyn Park (L) (eventual winners) Reeds (L) and Guildford (W). Cold hands and a slippery ball made it hard to get continuity, but the sheer fact that the team stayed on the park, playing with such determination, was a victory in its own right. As we moved into the plate competition and even wetter and colder than at the outset, the team started to adapt to the conditions and discovered some more fluency. We started to rain (pun intended) tries on the opposition, with some lovely passes and scything running. Thus it was that with Reeds 2 and Cobham dispatched we ran out plate winners. Playing and indeed winning some games in these conditions was a real achievement for the squad who all gave everything they could and should be very proud. The parents were also fantastic, unstinting in their support and willingness to get wet – and tea and sweets! Thanks to all involved and to Dean our resident photographer for the amazing pictures.
