Teddington got their Cup campaign off to a flying start with a 7-try win over Hampstead 2s.

Teddington are in the Junior Cup section again this year with 64 teams entered this level of the tournament. Antlers reached the final last year and are looking to go far again this time around.

Paired against a lower league team in round 1, Teddington made seven starting team changes from the side which beat Guildford the week before in the league with the coaching team using the game as a great opportunity to see some newer faces in action and an opportunity to try out new combinations.

The game got off to a solid start with Izzy Jorris, playing at centre, touching down early showing her pace,  while Emma Davis rounded off a nice move out wide for an early two score lead.

Teddington were guilty of not playing to the poor elements and trying to play too quick too fast - a ploy which resulted in a raft of early handling errors and a litany of collapsed scrums with the slippy underfoot conditions.

However, their attacking play was simply too much for Hampstead to handle and with Heather Smith, Laura Semple and Becky Piddlestone making strong yardage up front, there was plenty of ball for the backs to play with. Jorris was straight through the middle for another score half way through the first half for the three try lead.

Playing at inside centre, Laura Mackay continued to hit great lines and was a constant threat throughout and her centre partner Jorris went over for her hat trick after a kick through from Laura Parry was not gathered or cleared by the opposition and Teddington took a solid 22-0 lead into the break.

Teddington played as a whole a much better tactical game in the second half, keeping it tight in the first exchanges before moving the ball wide for their threatening backs to make ground.

A tapped penalty then saw new prop Katie Brown score after she barrelled her way over the line and the fresh legs from the bench made an impact with Emma Kite ,Nadine Fletcher and Jess Tabram all making great ground and rucking well alongside captain Penny Carr.

With all of the subs now on, Mackay then did brilliantly to pick off the floor and race through for a score and it was her final pass which also saw Hollie Blenman hit a top line for her try under the posts to round off the scoring.

With a number of players resting and recovering from injury this week, the win was an excellent outing to give game time to new faces and all in all it was a pleasing start to the new competition.

Teddington have a week off before returning to league action at home against Witney. The team remain unbeaten this season but know there are much tougher challenges to come.

Final score 0 - 41 to Teddington
