After a poor start, Teddington recorded a bonus point win over Newbury in terrible weather conditions on Sunday.

Teddington were very slow to get going with Newbury keeping it tight and working the phases well to get themselves into the '22. Teddington made a hash of clearing their lines and Newbury pounced for the opening score of the day to go 7-0 up.

But that was as close as they would get to the try line again for the rest of the game as Antlers stepped up their game to score five unanswered tries as the rain poured down.

With Heather Smith in superb form up front, Teddington made plenty of hard yards with Penny Carr and Emma Davis running some smart lines and after they had worked their way into the '22 Laura Parry ran a great line to cut through and run in under the posts after Clare Brown had helped win fine field position.

AImee Miller then raced away for a 60 metre try - quickly becoming her trademark - to make it 12-9 before Chryssa Warlow ran a superb line to latch onto a Brown offload and score under the posts.

Teddington brought on five early replacements after the break and they stepped it up again with two very well taken tries. At this point the Teddington defence was coping very well with what the hosts had to offer, although Newbury continued to pressure the visitors up front.

Teddington continued to work the phases well with Karin Ballantyne and Smith making good yards and Karen Griffin making a good impact off the bench.

They broke through again to score through Brown who latched onto a fine offload to score under the posts in a typically strong finish.

Finally it was the turn of Hollie Blenman, now out on the wing, to score out wide when smart thinking from Smith saw her cross in the corner.

The win sets Teddington up well for what is sure to be a very tough Cup semi-final next weekend.
