Concussion First Aid

Don't be a HEADCASE
We had a situation recently where a boy was concussed at a school match on Saturday who attended training on Sunday - this must not happen!

There is a return to play policy set out by the RFU for your boys/girls safety and well being and is not optional at the club or their school - Return to Play Policy

If we suspect that your son/daughter has been concussed we will ask you to take them to their GP and we will ask you to tell their school. If there is any doubt then we will assume he has been concussed until we see clearance from a medical professional.

I hope the school will treat it with the same concern and their should be no pressure from them to play your son for a critical match. It is crucial that your son/daughter does not receive a second concussion while still recovering from the first - I'll leave you to google Second Impact Syndrome as your homework for the week!

The first First Aid course this year will be on 5th November from 09:00 - 16:00 at Udney Park Road. If you are interested in attending the course is free but we will expect you help out as a first aider in your age group and at festival time if your age group is organising. This course will be general but also have a pitch side element and will be given by an educator that has worked with the RFU and is himself a rugby coach so will cover concussion, head & spinal injuries etc etc.

Please let your age group first aid co-ordinator know as there are still spaces available and if there is demand we will put on a second course.

Thanks
Jonathan
