Teddington RFC Referees Section

This section of the club is generously supported by the Lensbury.

Vision

The Teddington RFC referees section will promote the highest standards of refereeing throughout the club and the highest standards of conduct on the field of play. The referees section will help to ensure that the game of rugby union will be played according to the ethos of the club, which can be summarised as:

• Fun
• Success
• Safety

Mission

The referees section will improve the standard of refereeing throughout the club by:

• Encouraging coaches in all age groups to become referees
• Providing resources and opportunities for training and development of referees
• Promoting as many of our best referees as possible to support the senior sides

We will be “coaches with whistles”.
 

Membership

All coaches with an interest in refereeing can join the referees section. Members will be encouraged and supported to achieve recognised RFU refereeing qualifications.

Members will be encouraged to develop their skills and to use them at every opportunity. There will be a programme of internal club development sessions. Development will address club-specific and more general refereeing issues.

Mentoring arrangements will be encouraged, with more experienced and more highly qualified referees providing support to others. In particular, support will be provided to referees as they make the transition from tag to contact; introduce age group rule changes; and progress from the junior to the senior game - mirroring players’ own development through the rugby continuum.

Recognition

Qualified club referees will be entitled to wear the TRFC referee’s kit, sponsored by the Lensbury, to clearly identify those with RFU referee status.
