RFU JUNIOR VASE - NATIONAL FINAL

SATURDAY 15th MAY 2010 @ TWICKENHAM STADIUM

TEDDINGTON RFC (43) v (21) BRAMLEY PHOENIX RFC

The RFU Junior Vase

The Junior Vase is a national knockout cup competition open to all junior clubs in England, The final was played on the hallowed turf at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday 15th May. Teddington have entered this competition year after year, and have always been knocked out in the early rounds, until last year. In 2008/09 we reached the last 16 teams in the Country. In that round of 16 game we played in Cornwall, the furthest the club had ever travelled to play a competitive fixture. Our opponents were St Austell RFC (Cornwall Division 1) and the game was an epic encounter played in front of a large partisan crowd. Unfortunately we lost 6-5, but we had a brilliant time on our 'mini tour' to the Westcountry. The experience of that weekend in Cornwall and the previous rounds at various other rugby outposts, including The Isle of Wight spurred us on to come back this year for another full on crack at the competition.

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for players at our level to play on the biggest rugby stage of all, and it is this and the possibility of being called the best junior club in the country which drives the players, coaches and backroom staff on, especially on those wet and cold February nights on the training pitch..

The early rounds are regionalised and the Final of the London and South East region took take place on Easter Saturday 3rd April 2010. We narrowly defeated Newmarket in a nail biting encounter which was eventually decided in the last play of extra time. Teddington as champions of the region then played Bristol Imperial  in the National semi final on Saturday 1st May 2010 at Bushy Park. This game was played in front of a huge home crowd, and Teddington controlled proceedings from start to finish. The 41-5 win booked our place in the National Final. Bramley Phoenix from Leeds and winners of The Northern Division defeated Evesham RFC The Midlands Champions in the other semi final. The National final was therefore:
