TEDDINGTON RFC (Senior Section)We are proudly sponsored this season by
Teddington RFC has been in existence since 1966 and we are known affectionately as the “Antlers” as this was the club’s name for may years. We have the well-deserved reputation for being one of the friendliest clubs in the area. Not that this detracts from the quality of the rugby we endeavor to play. We have demonstrated our commitment to improvement and success with the appointment 2 seasons ago of our head coach Giselle Mather. This is a major coup for a club at our level, as Giselle is one of only a handful of coaches in the whole country to have attained the RFU's highest level 4 qualification. She is the only female coach to have both achieved that standard and to be coaching a mens rugby team. We also have a fitness and conditioning coach and club physiotherapist. All this means that we are a club that attracts many new players either wishing to develop their rugby careers and receive top coaching in the process or those just wishing to play a bit of social rugby. We'll give you a warm welcome not matter what you want from your rugby.
1st XV will be playing their league rugby in RFU London League 3 (SW) in season 2010/11. This is after being promoted as champions from Surrey 1 last season. We have in fact been promoted in 4 of the last 5 seasons. It must be said that last season was the best we've ever had. The statistics speak for themself, we won all of 30 of our 30 games and scored over 1,200 points, and conceeded only 340 in the process. In May 2010 at Twickenham Stadium we won the RFU Junior Vase, a national cup competition for teams at our level. We beat Bramley Phoenix RFC a team from Yorkshire in an exciting game watched by thousands of Teddington supporters. In May we were also named by Rugby World Magazine as their British and European Team of the Year, no mean feat for a club ot our level and with our rather quaint facilities. But on that point things will be changing very soon. We have recently been granted permission to massively update and extend our clubhouse, and we hope to get the work started before the end of this season.. We're certainly no one team club either, as our 2nd XV chipped in by winning the Surrey Merit League title last season and our 3rd XV who also play league rugby in the Surrey merit leagues were themselves the champions of Surrey Conference 3 in 2007/08. The Vets/4th XV will be playing friendlies throughout the season.on. This season we have yet again set our sights fairly high, we want to push for promotion and hopefully have another strong tilt at the National Cup, this time the RFU Senior Vase. We are also entering the Middlesex Bowl , a knockout cup competition for clubs in the County. With a growing squad of talented players with a mixture of youth and experience, combined with our dedicated coaching staff, yet again an exciting season lies ahead again. Our soon to be updated and enlarged clubhouse and 2 pitches are located in the beautiful setting of Bushy Park, a Royal Park roaming with herds of red and fallow deer. Bushy Park is situated in the middle of Teddington and close to all transport links to Central London. (Please see the “Maps” section for the address and directions). In season 2008/09 a milestone for the club was marked, when Ross SWANSON our first ever home produced International player (he was capped for England U18's in season 2007/08) became the first ever Teddington player to play in the Varsity match. Ross had a superb game at fly-half for Oxford in the annual match against Cambridge at Twickenham. He has since won a further Varsity match Blue in last seasons game. Our 7’s squad enter the prestigeous Middlesex Club 7's every year, which we won in 2007, with a team dominated by players from that seasons U18's squad. We tour regularly to all the usual European destinations and have ventured further afield too. In 2007 we went to California and in 2002 to Barbados. The last 5 seasons have been packed full of great moments and overall the continuing plan for success for Teddington Rugby club is well on track. With three competitions to play in means that we have a full and demanding season. Please see the “Fixtures and Results” section for what’s on the cards for this season. Ready to shift up a gear ? Teddington are now looking to attract new and experienced players to strengthen all of our teams for the 2010/11 season. If you are interested in joining in with the fun and getting fit, why not come down to the club and join us for training on Tuesdays (fitness and conditioning) and Thursdays (Individual and unit skills) both evenings start at 7.30pm sharp. There is a planned programme of coaching unfolding throughout the season. For more information please contact: Rory CREDLAND
